Keith Hudson - Torch Of Freedom

Whether you know him as The Dark Prince Of Reggae, the Ghetto Dentist or just plain Keith, the legendary artist and producer Keith Hudson created some of the most idiosyncratic, innovative and atmospheric reggae that ever came out of Jamaica and Hot Milk Records are proud to present the uber- rare "Torch Of Freedom" as its first ever release.

Hot Milk is a new label dedicated to re-issuing lost and hard to find roots reggae, dub and dancehall albums from the golden age of Jamaican music. Hudson was famous for his productions for reggae greats such as U Roy (Dynamic Fashion Way), Big Youth (S.90 Skank) and Dennis Alcapone (Spanish Amigo) before moving on to concentrate on his own singing. What followed was a ground breaking and completely unique body of work that was arguably never bettered by any reggae producer.

"Torch of Freedom" is one more missing piece of the Keith Hudson discography that has gained a large following and re-issues treatment in the last few years after being out of print for so long. "Torch Of Freedom" fits neatly besides Keith Hudson's other classic albums such as "Pick A Dub", "Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood" and "Playing It Cool, Playing It Right “and shows the unique sound and vision of what Hudson's work as an artist and producer was all about.

Tena Stelin - Embark On A Journey

Tena Stelin takes his name from the Amharic language of Ethiopia, which, translated, means ‘greetings’. He began his career in the late 80s as a UK-based vocalist with the Conscious Sounds label and initially enjoyed a roots hit with ‘Can’t Touch Jah’. Much of the recording for the Conscious Sounds collective’s output took place at the Manasseh studio run by sound system operator Nick Manasseh. The UK roots scene enjoys a cult following, with releases appearing on cassette corresponding with African rather than reggae recordings. In 1990 DJ Joey Jay, widely acknowledged as a pioneer of UK roots, began transmitting the sound legally with Nick Manasseh across London when the radio station Kiss FM was granted a broadcasting licence. This resulted in wider exposure for Stelin, along with other notable performers, including Devon Russell and Sound Iration. In 1989 Stelin had recorded ‘Give Thanks And Praise’ and ‘King Of Kings Parts One And Two’ with Sound Iration. Stelin’s producer, Dougie Wardrop, employed a session band known as Centry who enjoyed several hits, including ‘Stepping Time’ and ‘Thunder Mountain’. The release of début album "Wicked Invention" was received with rave reviews, though in 1990 the roots revival was still impending. Since then he has brought us the albums such as "Sun And Moon" (1992), "Take A Look At The World" (1994), "The Order" (1998) and "Unknown Legends" (2008), he is now back with "Embark On A Journey" which you can read more about at......

The British Reggae Industry Awards

The 2013 British Reggae Industry Awards (B.R.I.A) are to take place at the Indigo 02 Arena, London on Thursday, February 21st.

First established in 1981 these awards have been used to acknowledge British artists for their dedication to reggae music. During that time the British public’s love of reggae has unfortunately diminished but with new and exciting music styles like dubstep and artists like Hollie Cook revitalizing peoples interest in reggae it is hoped that this recognized event will help and encourage the development of reggae music amongst the younger generation.

There will be a host of live performances on the night from artists’ such as Little Roy, Tippa Irie, Lovella Ellis, Buckey Ranks, Skibu, Michael Gordon, Miss Kjah, Mr Jimmy London, and all the way from Scotland a reggae lovers rock band called The iFoundation.

If you would like to go along and show your support for British Reggae tickets are available from the Ticketmaster website or visit the British Reggae Industry Awards site at www.britishreggaeawards.co.uk/ for more information and to view a comprehensive list of ticket outlets.

Mooji's "Reggae-Satsang"

The Jamaican born spiritual guide in the Hindu-tradition of Advaita, Mooji has once again teamed up with Jonahgold of Goldheart Music to bring us another 13-track album full of meditive vibes “Reggae-Satsang”.
As with his previous release “Dub- Satsang”, from late 2011, his soothing spoken words are laid over music by Jonahgold, which this time has been especially composed around them, rather than riding on riddims from his back catalogue and according to the artist/producer makes it “more reggae than straight dub”.
The message is again a spiritual one about finding inner peace and can be downloaded free or streamed from Soundcloud.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

* Satsang (Sanskrit sat = true, sanga = company) is in Indian philosophy that involves (1) the company of the "highest truth," (2) the company of a guru, or (3) company with an assembly of persons who listen to, talk about, and assimilate the truth.[1] This typically involves listening to or reading scriptures, reflecting on, discussing and assimilating their meaning, meditating on the source of these words, and bringing their meaning into one’s daily life.

Sleepy Time Ghost - Youthman Riddim [Unit 137]

As we head in to 2013 Unit 137 are proud to present this full length release from  Sleepy Time Ghost. Having appeared on remix duty on each Unit 137 release to date they thought it was time Sleepy made his début with this assured roots riddim alongside the notorious Ras Demo [A.K.A Demolition Man] and Lionpulse, an up and coming sound-system from Bristol.

Alongside the outstanding original is a Dub from Joe Ariwa, head honcho at the foundational Ariwa Studio, alongside his father, Mad Professor. Hylu & Jago also return with a driving Steppas remix, bringing a new energy to Lionpulse’s vocal version. The release will be available on heavyweight 12” vinyl & digital this month.
